New eruption 20 times the previous   E-mail 

Although still in its early stages the new eruption is belived to be at least 20 times that of the previous eruption on Fimmvörðuháls ridge. The top Mt. Eyjafjallajökull is erupting from a 2 kilometre-long fissure melting the 200 metre thick glacial ice cap covering the volcano. Markarfljót river has swelled up to over 1500 cubic metres per second which is rougly four times that of the largest river in Iceland. On the mountain's south side a black flood cascades down onto the farmlands below submerging fields and threatening livestock.
